As an Intern in our Accounts Payable (AP) team, you will be responsible for all activities in the business expenses system, BPM. A big part of making our procurement process easier, simpler and more efficient; is adopting accessible platforms that support the flow of information. Our business has implemented a digitalised way of managing expenses and approvals.
In this role, you will:
- Review purchase orders, including contracts and other supporting documents, critiquing and challenging the business on their inputs
- Ensure all purchase orders and invoices are approved in a timely manner, escalating those that are at a block in the system
- Liaise with all other functions of the business to educate and train them on the BPM process, and what their role and responsibilities are in this
- Lead trainings for specific users and departments on areas where you see recurring issues
- Set expectations both with internal stakeholders on payment release dates
- Assist in the creation of purchase orders for non-contractual recurring spend
- Monitor user activity, ensuring all active users have completed mandatory training
- Support the AP team on open PO accruals and updating the team on unapproved spend during the payment run cycle
- Identify improvements to the process and driving the change
- Test changes made in the system in a testing environment prior to changes going live
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or another related field
- Prior experience in a stakeholder facing role is advantageous
- Understanding of basic accounting principals and the accruals concept
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Intermediate excel skills are a requirement
- Organisational and accounting skills
- High attention to detail
- Ability to operate effectively with people at all levels of the business
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Proactive and result driven
- Demonstrable ability to work to tight deadlines on critical projects
- A strong desire to exceed expectations
