Role - Senior Software Engineer – Android | Ecommerce
Team - Digital Retail Innovation & Transformation
Location - Dubai
Job Purpose
The Android Engineer is responsible for building apps from scratch, deploying, maintaining and creating new features for the Al-Futtaim Retail apps. Deliver apps which functions as beautiful as it's designed. She/he will be a key member of the product development team to ensure a smooth customer experience on every digital channel.
Key accountabilities
Strong knowledge of Android SDK, different versions of android, and how to deal with different screen sizes
Familiarity with restful APIs to connect android applications to back-end services
Strong knowledge of Android UI design principles, patterns, and best practices
Experience with offline storage, threading, and performance tuning
Ability to design applications around natural user interfaces, such as “touch”
Familiarity with the use of additional sensors, such as gyroscopes and accelerometers
Knowledge of the open-source android ecosystem and the libraries available for common tasks
Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical requirements
Familiarity with cloud message APIs and push notifications
A knack for benchmarking and optimization
Understanding of Google’s android design principles and interface guidelines
Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as git
Familiarity with continuous integration
Knowledge of other web technologies and UI/UX standards
A strong technical background, with deep understanding of client-server architecture.
Experience in setting up a mobile software development environment and thereby establishing a process of building and releasing an app to the Google Play.
Agile approach to development, testing, and documentation in a cross-functional team environment
A constant desire to improve, learn more and take things to the next level and a passion for adopting the latest features in Android.
Strong communication skills and a positive attitude
Sync with the "cross-functional" squad teams during the entire product development lifecycle
Improve, optimize, and identify opportunities for improved software engineering cycle
Be agile and do agile to enable a transparent and faster product development environment
Solid agile execution for building digital products using the frameworks like scrum, kanban or xp

Define organizational policy and other factors that have a critical impact on the job this role reports directly to the senior product manager, Al-Futtaim ecommerce. The job has full accountability to ensure a smooth customer experience on every digital channel powered by android, both in-store and online.
Job Specification
Qualifications, experience, & skills:
Bachelor's degree, or equivalent certification in computer science or any related technical stream
5-10 years of experience developing and testing highly distributed, complex ecommerce platforms
Experience with continuous integration and related tools like Jenkins, Maven, Ant
Experience with distributed source control systems such as Bitbucket or Git
Solid knowledge of website and mobile analytics tools like Google Analytics
Work Experience
5+ years of extensive digital product experience that can demonstrate a track-record in performing quality assurance practices on different product features on-time with high quality.
Prior experience overseeing the Android App portfolio and management of any major ecommerce functionalities, preferably for a brick and click retailer in the MENA region.
Highly developed written, verbal and presentation & interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with stakeholders and colleagues at the highest level.
