Job Description

The Post: Primary Assistant Head (Standards and Progress)

It is a very exciting time to join the Primary Leadership Team at DIS. The successful applicant will be required to have the following:

  • A B.Ed. or degree and PGCE / PGDE or equivalent with exceptional subject knowledge.
  • At least 5 years’ teaching experience of the National Curriculum for England and a proven track record of outstanding learning and teaching.
  • A mind-set which understands all students have the potential for top performance, and the drive and passion to enable them to do so.
  • An interest in developing assessment and/or leadership of assessment systems
  • At least 3 years’ Middle leadership experience and a track record of raising standards

The following will be desirable:

  • At least 2 years’ Senior leadership experience and a track record of raising standards
  • Experience in using Coaching and Mentoring strategies to drive Teaching and Learning
  • A working knowledge of the assessment systems of outstanding International schools, especially those within the UAE

Key Responsibilities upon Appointment:

Leadership

  • To work closely with the Primary Leadership Team to ensure we reach our school improvement targets and strategic goals
  • To improve both standards and accountability across the Primary school, with a focus on several year groups
  • To produce clear, concise and accurate information on pupil progress to all stakeholders
  • To form outstanding working relationships with other leaders and also external stakeholders
  • To support colleagues to reach their Performance Management targets and professional aspirations
  • To work positively and effectively under pressure, modelling the attributes and qualities of an outstanding leader.

Assessment

  • To create, implement, and maintain assessment systems across the Primary phase, making perceptive use of all student information
  • To create and communicate a robust National Agenda Action Plan to the relevant stakeholders
  • To continuously monitor the effective use of assessment across the Primary phase, including the collation of accurate assessment information
  • Ensure systems for assessing, tracking and data analysis are understood by all staff in the Primary Phase
  • Provide appropriate PD where necessary to ensure systems are understood and used effectively
  • Hold meetings with Year and Core Leaders to analyse the impact of their actions at each DC point
  • Report to key stakeholders on the attainment and progress profile across school, ensuring transparency of performance for all key groups, including Students of Determination
  • Further develop and lead on the implementation of a reporting system that clearly informs parents and supports the partnership they have with the school

Developing Self and Others

  • Lead relevant and agreed PD across the Primary phase
  • Support other members of the school’s leadership team in planning and delivering whole school PD
  • To support the school’s strategies to improve practice, through a coaching and modelling approach
  • Lead and support staff in developing and sustaining positive working relationships within and across phases
  • Lead and undertake leadership and subject level performance management reviews
  • Where appropriate, support the interview/selection process for teacher recruitment and ensure effective induction of new staff
  • Actively pursue your own professional development as an Assistant Headteacher.

  • To play an active role in the future development of the school and its community
  • To attend Open Days, marketing and after-school school community events where appropriate
  • To promote and adhere to the school’s policies where appropriate.
  • Any other professional duties that are required and outlined as a senior leader at Deira International School
