Job Summary
Medical technologists analyse samples of blood, tissue and body fluids to determine chemical content, cell count, drug levels or blood type. Preparing the samples for examination, using automated equipment and specialised instrumentation, performing numerous complicated tests simultaneously, and accurately interpreting the results are all part of a medical technologist's job.
Duties and Responsibilities
Use, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory analysers and equipment according to policies and procedures.
Perform and observe haematological, biochemical, serological, and other requested tests on patients’ specimens and correctly record the results.
Verify results after careful review of patient history and previous results.
Perform quality control for test systems, ensuring validity and accuracy.
Participate in proficiency testing programs and the laboratory accreditation process.
Perform other tasks as delegated by the laboratory manager.
Perform phlebotomy procedures as necessary.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional societies.
Maintains inter- and intradepartmental work flow by fostering a spirit of cooperation.
Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste and other safety policies and procedures.
Maintains patient confidence and protects the clinic by keeping information confidential.
Requirements
Bachelor’s or Associate degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical, or biological science
Holds a DHA practice licence
Fluent in English
Skill in fine, precise manipulation of equipment and materials
Ability to exercise independent judgement with minimal supervision
Ability to remain calm under pressure and apply sound judgement while working with high-expectation patients
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Able to present information in a thorough, systematic fashion and perform follow-up routinely
Ability to manage and oversee multiple tasks simultaneously, ability to prioritise tasks based on degree of urgency
Advantage: Experience in a CAP/ ISO/ JCI accredited laboratory
